How to Clean Ash from Carpet

Whether it has been tracked in on the bottom of shoes or one of your kiddos dropped a half-burnt stick on the ground, ash is notoriously annoying to clean. Here’s the best way to clean carpet from ash:

  1. Vacuum the ash-stained area by using the suction-only function on the vacuum cleaner. Do not use a brush or roller-beater because this grinds the ash further into the carpet.

  1. Sprinkle a generous amount of an absorbent substance such as talcum powder, cornstarch, or bicarbonate of soda over the ash stain and allow it to stand for one to two hours.
  2. Vacuum the absorbent powder and loose ash from the carpet using the suction-only method. Do not use the roller-beater.

  1. Blot the stain with a clean, white, absorbent cloth dampened with 1001 Carpet Stain Remover , according to label directions. Do not rub the cloth on the stain; this grinds the ash into the carpet.

  1. Repeat the application of cleaner and blotting of the stain until the ash is removed.

How to Clean Ketchup

Having a bonfire at home means you can use this as an opportunity to roast hot dogs over the fire! That’s a fun activity not available at larger public celebrations. But it does mean you may run into the trouble of ketchup or other condiment stains on your carpet. Here is the best way to clean carpet if someone’s dog doesn’t stain the bun:

  1. Blot the area with kitchen towel to absorb any excess liquid.
  2. Apply 1001 Carpet Stain Remover and wait for a maximum of 5 minutes.
  3. Massage the product into the stained area.
  4. Remove excess liquid with a dry cloth.
  5. Leave the area to dry, then vacuum.

How to Clean Toffee

Candy apples are a sweet autumnal treat…that can be an absolute nightmare to clean up after. Here’s the best way to clean carpet if there is toffee on it:

  1. Place some ice cubes in a plastic bag.
  2. Rub over the area until brittle.
  3. Cover the area with a tea towel or kitchen towel.
  4. Shatter the gum using a rolling pin or heel of a shoe.
  5. Vacuum thoroughly.
  6. Apply 1001 Carpet Stain Remover or 1001 Mousse.
  7. Massage the product into the stained area.
  8. Remove excess liquid with a dry cloth.
  9. Leave the area to dry, then vacuum again.
