The holidays call for all sorts of specialized foods we don’t normally enjoy. And there are no two better examples than bread sauce and cranberry sauce. As delicious an accompaniment as they are to our meals, they’re not a great pair with our carpets. But they’re no match for the Christmas Dream Team! The combo of 1001 Carpet Stain Remover and Carpet Fresh Frosted Winter Berries will have your home holiday-perfect again in minutes—here’s how!

Cranberry Sauce

We wouldn’t blame you for sticking to canned cranberry sauce. But if you’re feeling extra inspired, you can make it from scratch too! (If so, we’d doubly recommend having some 1001 Carpet Stain Remover on hand though.)

The Recipe

  • 200g sugar
  • 250ml water
  • 340g fresh or frozen cranberries

Simply put the sugar and water in a saucepan over heat, bringing to boil. While heating the water, rinse your cranberries thoroughly. Add the cranberries to the pot and bring back to a boil before reducing to a simmer. Cook for about 10 minutes, or until most of the cranberries have burst.

The Pros & Cons

We love the tart contrast of turkey and cranberry sauce. We almost love it more for making turkey sandwiches with leftovers more than we like it for Christmas dinner! But, somehow it seems like we always end up with heaps more leftover sauce than leftover turkey. And, of course, there is the stain issue.

Using Carpet Stain Remover on Cranberry Sauce Stains

If you’re crazy for cranberry sauce, you’ll definitely need some carpet stain remover on hand. When cranberry sauce escapes your plate or sandwich to land on a couch or carpet, here’s what to do:

  1. Carefully pick up any solid pieces with a knife.
  2. Blot the area with kitchen towel to absorb any excess liquid.
  3. Apply 1001 Carpet Stain Remover and wait for a maximum of 5 minutes.
  4. Massage the product into the stained area.
  5. Remove excess liquid with a dry cloth.
  6. Leave the area to dry, then vacuum.

Bread Sauce

Bread sauce is a uniquely British culinary accompaniment and one that Nigella at least is a big fan of. If you’ve never had it before, why not add it to the table this year? We went to the BBC Good Food page to find the recipe!

The Recipe

  • 600ml milk
  • 50g butter
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 6 cloves
  • 6 peppercorns
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 3 thyme sprigs
  • 100g white breadcrumbs
  • 4 tbsp single cream or mascarpone
  • pinch nutmeg

Add milk, butter, onion, cloves, peppercorns, garlic and herbs to a pan for 20 mins. Strain to save the liquid, which you’ll put back in the pan. Add the breadcrumbs and simmer for 3-4 mins. Stir in the cream or mascarpone. Add nutmeg, season and serve. Can be made up to 3 days in advance and heated up on the hob or microwave on Medium for 3 mins.

The Pros & Cons

This rich, creamy sauce is sure to stick to your ribs, but unfortunately, it can also stick to your carpets! Given its milky and bready makeup, it can dry into a paste-like texture, and start to smell if left too long. But it’s no problem for The Dream Team!
