Down

When it comes to pure decadence, the Christmas season can’t be beaten. There’s the chocolate, the mulled wine, the gravy… And then, of course, the after-dinner treats. Some want to jump straight into the sweets and then those who always save some room for cheese. We’re happy with a bit of both (thank you very much!) but we’d rather not have second helpings of carpet stains. Because yes, that brandy sauce we love to soak the Christmas pudding, and delicious soft brie, can both make quite the mess if dropped. But don’t worry! The 1001 Christmas Dream Team can tell you how to clean carpet that has been smeared with either!

Christmas Pudding

There’s nothing quite as glorious as a Christmas pudding. Of course, we might like the sauce as much as we actually like the pudding. Here’s a recipe we love from the BBC.

The Recipe

  • 55g butter
  • 55gplain flour
  • 570ml milk
  • 4 tbsp brandy
  • 55g caster sugar

Melt the butter in a small saucepan and sift in flour. Cook for 2 minutes and then stir in the milk. Bring to the boil, stirring all the time, and simmer gently for 10 minutes.

Stir in the brandy and sugar before serving with your Christmas pudding

The Pros & Cons

Saucy and sweet—what’s not to love? Seriously, we’re trying to think! There can be a bit of a mess factor, and our thoughts of ‘how to clean carpet before this gets out of hand’ can interrupt the merry-making. But that’s why this easy advice is just what you need!

How to Clean Carpet After a Brandy Sauce Spill

Once the carpet is clean, don’t forget the 1001 Carpet Fresh Frosted Winter Berries! It adds hours of freshness, long after the last of the pudding has disappeared.

Cheese Platters

The Pros & Cons

Can you say easy-as-1-2-3? Your local shop will be bursting with cheese platter options at this time of year. If you’re lucky, you’ll receive a few gift baskets featuring fromage as well! Given that we’re often the people doing the lion’s share of holiday prep, we love the ease of an after-dinner cheese platter.

But, it can be a polarizing choice. Especially if you have young children who haven’t developed a taste for smellier soft cheeses. In fact, they may be responsible for cheese you find on the carpet or rug later, if they were attempting to hide the evidence!

How to Clean Carpet With Cheese On It

Cheese may not cause a lot of discolouration in your carpet, but soft cheese can get mashed into the fibres. It won’t take too long to start smelling—yuck! Here’s how to clean carpet after some cheese missed mouth or plate:

  1. Scrape up all residue with a blunt knife.
  2. Blot the area with kitchen towel to absorb any excess liquid.
  3. Apply 1001 Carpet Stain Remover and wait for a maximum of 5 minutes.
  4. Massage the product into the stained area.
  5. Remove excess liquid with a dry cloth.
  6. Leave the area to dry, then vacuum.

If a greasy residue persists after drying, apply white spirit with a soft cloth from the outside to the centre of the stain and follow steps 4 to 6. For an extra burst of holiday freshness, complete the Dream Team treatment with 1001 Carpet Fresh Frosted Winter Berries!
